Quarry Wood

The woodland paths at Quarry Wood wind through a proper mix of conifers and broadleaf trees, with the ground underfoot ranging from sandy track to loamy damp depending on the season. You're just outside Wareham, close enough for a morning visit without the faff of a long drive. The quarry itself - long disused - creates natural clearings where light floods through the canopy, and on a clear day you get decent views across the surrounding countryside.

It's the kind of place that works well for a couple of hours rather than a full day out. Dog walkers love it, families with younger kids can burn energy on the main trails without getting lost, and if you're into trees you'll find plenty of interest. The paths are generally well-maintained and not too demanding - a few gentle slopes but nothing that'll have your legs screaming. Worth timing your visit for late afternoon when the light gets proper golden through the trees.

Being this close to Swanage Bay View Holiday Park makes it an easy add-on to a longer park stay. You could knock out a walk here in the morning, then head back for lunch or push on to explore more of the Purbeck area. The real draw is the quiet - it's not a destination spot that gets rammed with coaches, which means you might actually hear the birds. Free access, as far as most forest walks go.
