Pye Bridge Pond

There's a modest stretch of water just outside Alfreton that doesn't make it onto many tourist radars, but Pye Bridge Pond has a quiet appeal if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks. It's the sort of place where locals come to clear their heads rather than tick off a bucket list item.

The pond itself is small - you can walk round it in twenty minutes without rushing. The main draw is the walking path that circles the water, which suits families with younger kids or anyone after a gentle leg-stretch between campsite activities. There's something calming about it, especially on a weekday when it's not crowded. The surrounding woodland gives it a bit more character than you'd expect from such a modest body of water.

It's free to access, though there aren't formal facilities that I could see. You won't spend hours here unless you're combining it with other walks in the area or you're genuinely keen on spotting local birdlife. If you're camped at Riddings Wood or Golden Valley, both within striking distance, it's worth a morning wander before heading somewhere bigger. The Firs, further out near Ashover way, makes it less convenient for a quick visit.

Really, this is filler rather than a main event. Fine if you're already in the area and want something low-key. Don't detour specially.
