Pundeavon Reservoir

The walk around Pundeavon Reservoir is one of those unexpected rewards you stumble upon when exploring Renfrewshire's quieter corners. It's a proper water body - not dramatic, not Instagram-famous, but genuinely calming once you're there. The reservoir sits near Lochwinnoch, and the circuit is manageable for most fitness levels, taking you past woodland and open water views without demanding much technical skill.

What makes it worth the trip is the peace. You won't battle crowds here like you would at more publicised Scottish lochs. Birdwatchers do well out of it - herons, ducks, and the occasional osprey if you're lucky. The surrounding hills frame things nicely without being severe. Allow two to three hours for the full loop depending on your pace and how often you stop to actually look at things.

Families with younger kids might find it a bit long for the reward; teenagers and proper walkers will appreciate the low-key route. It's not a destination in itself, but it slots perfectly into a broader Renfrewshire walking plan. If you're staying at The Pods at Auchenhean nearby, it's close enough for an afternoon outing and gives you a reason to get boots on without the effort of a major fell day.
