Priors Hall Park Amphitheatre

The amphitheatre at Priors Hall Park is genuinely one of those places that catches you off guard. You're wandering through a nature reserve on the outskirts of Peterborough expecting the usual pond-and-path setup, and instead you stumble onto this properly impressive curved stone seating area built into the landscape. It's used for outdoor events and performances, though outside of scheduled things it's just you, the views across the grassland, and whatever wildlife happens to be about.

For families, it's a decent spot - kids will enjoy clambering on the seats and it's a proper focal point for a longer walk through the reserve. History buffs might find it less gripping than older monuments, but there's something satisfying about seeing how modern conservation spaces are designed. The real draw is the walking. Priors Hall Park itself is extensive, so you can easily spend a couple of hours meandering through the different habitats and grassland areas.

If you're staying at Brightside Caravan Park or New Lodge Farm Bulwick, both very close by, this makes a solid morning or afternoon outing without needing to travel far. The amphitheatre won't keep you for hours on its own, but it works brilliantly as part of a broader day exploring the reserve. Admission appears to be free, which helps. Best visited when the weather's decent - sitting on stone in the rain loses its charm quickly. Not a destination in itself, but well worth the detour if you're in the area.
