Walking into Prestley Wood near Huntingdon feels like stepping away from the Fens for once. It's a proper woodland - old trees, decent paths, the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think rather than just wind across flat fields.

The forest itself isn't massive, but it's got character. Mixed woodland with enough shade to make a summer afternoon manageable, and in autumn the colour is genuinely worth timing a visit for. It complements that sort of holiday well - water-based activities at Grafham, then some proper woodland walking here. Don't expect anything dramatic or Instagram-worthy; just solid, unpretentious forest that does its job.
