Prestbury Road Playing Field

Prestbury Road Playing Field is essentially a local sports ground on the edge of Cheltenham - the sort of place you'd walk past rather than plan a specific trip around. It's a functional open space with football pitches and the usual bits of grassland, useful if you've got kids burning off energy or you're after a casual kick-about, but there's nothing here that makes it stand out as a destination in itself.

The real appeal is practical rather than scenic. If you're staying at Winchcombe Camping & Caravanning Club - which is only about six miles away - and the weather's decent, this gives you somewhere to tire out the younger ones without driving far. Cheltenham itself has far better attractions, mind you. The town centre is worth exploring, and if you're keen on open spaces, Pittville Park is genuinely lovely and only a short walk from the town.

What you get here is basically access to some grass and pitches. It's free, as far as playing fields go, and there's no admission charge. How long you'll spend depends entirely on what you're doing - twenty minutes for a walk, or as long as the kids want to play if you've brought a ball. Go when the weather's decent; there's no shelter to speak of, and in winter it can be a bit of a mudpit.

If your caravan holiday is based nearby and you need a quick outing, fine. Otherwise, you're better off heading into Cheltenham proper or exploring the countryside around the Cotswolds.
