The name doesn't give much away, but Post Street Car Park near Huntingdon is actually a proper little nature reserve worth a quick detour if you're staying at one of the caravan parks dotted around the area. It's the sort of place that rewards a slow walk rather than a rushed visit - reedbed habitat, open water, and the kind of birdwatching potential that keeps twitchers coming back.

You won't find crowds here, which is either brilliant or boring depending on your mood. On a decent day the light on the water is genuinely lovely, and if you time it right during migration seasons you might clock something unusual. It's free access, naturally, and you can burn an hour or so without feeling you've wasted the trip.

Families with young kids might find it a bit quiet - there's no café, no facilities, no bells and whistles. But if you've got older children or you're into birds and wetland plants, it's worth knowing about. From Huntingdon Boathaven just half a mile away, it's practically on your doorstep. Wyton Lakes Holiday Park is also close enough for a morning walk before breakfast.

Really, it's a filler rather than a destination. Don't drag yourself out of your way, but if you're based locally and the weather's decent, slip down and spend twenty minutes listening to the reeds rattle. That said, Grafham Water five miles south offers more substantial outdoor options if you want something with actual facilities attached.
