Port Gaverne Beach

The beach at Port Gaverne is tucked into a proper little cove just south of Trelights, and it's the sort of place that rewards the small effort it takes to find it. There's no grand promenade or amusement arcade - just a slip of golden sand squeezed between steep cliffs, with the sort of shelter that makes it feel like your own discovery even when others are about.

It's a swimmer's beach first and foremost. The cove is deep enough for a decent dip, and the cliffs keep the wind at bay most days. The rocks at either end are worth exploring at low tide if you've got kids keen on rock pooling - nothing spectacular, but there's enough life to hold attention for a bit. The real appeal, though, is how quiet it stays. You'll never fight crowds here like you would at Polzeath or Watergate Bay.

Walkers will appreciate the South West Coast Path running right along the cliffs above - excellent views back down into the cove, and the terrain's manageable without being dull. Allow a couple of hours if you want to combine beach time with a proper walk.

Parking's limited to a handful of spaces at the top, so go early in summer or pick an off-season visit. There are no facilities on the beach itself - bring what you need. It works well as part of a broader coastal exploration, and staying at St Minver Holiday Park three miles away gives you easy access without the bother of fighting for a spot. The beach rewards those who take the time to seek it out.
