Pondery Hill

The walk up Pondery Hill takes about forty minutes from Lochwinnoch, and it's properly rewarding. You get sweeping views across the Renfrewshire countryside - not dramatic peaks, but genuine rolling landscape that stretches towards distant hills. On a clear day you can see why people bother making the climb.

It's a decent outing for families with older kids and anyone who fancies a straightforward moorland walk without the full Munro commitment. The terrain is manageable, nothing technical, though it can get boggy in wet weather so decent boots matter. You'll likely have the place to yourself midweek, which is lovely.

Allow a couple of hours if you're not rushing. There's no visitor facility on the hill itself - bring water and something to eat if you're staying up there for a bit. Free, obviously, like most Scottish hills.

If you're staying at The Pods at Auchenhean nearby, this makes a solid morning walk before heading elsewhere. It's close enough that you won't waste half your day driving, but far enough that it feels like proper countryside rather than a suburban park run. The location works well for a broader Renfrewshire exploration - Lochwinnoch itself has loch walks and bird reserves if the weather turns or you fancy something flatter the next day.

Not life-changing, but a solid hillside with decent views and none of the crowds you'd hit on the honey-pot routes.
