Polesteeple Hill

The walk up Polesteeple Hill from Warlingham takes about forty minutes if you're not in a particular hurry, and honestly, why would you be? It's a proper Surrey classic - nothing dramatic, nothing that'll leave you breathless, but the sort of steady climb that makes you feel like you've earned your legs back by the time you reach the top.

You get a decent view across the Weald from up there, rolling green country stretching away. On a clear day it's well worth the walk. It's the kind of place that appeals more to walkers than thrill-seekers - families with school-age kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might grumble about the last stretch.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I could find, so bring water. It's free to access, naturally, and you can make it part of a longer ramble through the area. If you're staying at Milberry Green Meadows just down the road, this makes an obvious half-day excursion - base yourself there and use it as a walking hub rather than trying to cram everything in one go.

The real appeal is how uncomplicated it all is. No car parks to hunt for, no entry fees, just a footpath and some Surrey countryside. Go early on a weekday if you want it quiet. Weekends get busier but never rammed. Bit steep for the final stretch, but nothing technical.
