Polegate Windmill

Standing on the South Downs just outside Pevensey, this restored windmill is one of those places that catches you off guard. You're driving through flat Sussex farmland, and suddenly there it is - a proper brick tower mill that actually worked. Built in the 19th century, it ground corn for local farmers until steam and electricity made it obsolete. Inside, you get the full mechanical picture: the massive gears, the grinding stones, the clever system for turning the sails into usable power. Kids can lose interest quickly unless they're the sort who get excited by cogs and pulleys - it's not flashy, and there's no interactive play area.
