Pitlochry Town Clock

The clock tower stands right in the heart of Pitlochry's main street - you can't miss it, and you're not supposed to. Built in 1886, it's one of those Victorian structures that feels like it's always been there, keeping time over the town like a friendly sentinel. The tower itself is modest rather than showy, but that's rather the point. It's the kind of landmark that anchors a high street, giving you something to orientate yourself around when you're exploring on foot.

This isn't a sit-down attraction or a ticketed experience. You simply walk past, clock in, take a photo if you fancy. Families with young kids barely notice it unless you point it out. But if you're into Scottish Victorian architecture or just appreciating how small towns were designed around communal spaces, it's worth a glance. The surrounding area - the shops, cafes, and that general buzz of a proper working town - is the real draw.

Pitlochry itself is excellent for a few days' break, especially if you're staying at Milton Of Fonab Caravan Park just down the road or the nicely-rated Faskally Woods Holiday Park. The clock tower sits at the heart of everything: the River Tummel walks start nearby, the theatre's a five-minute wander, and there are decent spots for lunch within metres. It's not the kind of place that'll consume an afternoon, but it's the spine around which everything else in town hangs together.
