Pitlochry Golf Course

The course sits on the southern edge of Pitlochry, and it's a proper highland layout - eighteen holes working through moorland and woodland that genuinely looks the part. Mountains frame the fairways. In autumn, when the bracken turns bronze and the light gets low and golden, it's genuinely striking.

You're looking at a challenging but fair test. Not brutally long by modern standards, but the slopes catch you out if you're not paying attention, and the rough is unforgiving. Golfers with single-figure handicaps will enjoy the routing; high handicappers won't feel completely humiliated either. Par 69, so it moves along without feeling like a slog.

The walk between holes is part of the appeal - you're not crammed onto a manicured resort course. It feels like actual golf in the Scottish highlands rather than a hospitality experience. That said, it's genuinely hilly in places, so factor in thirty minutes longer than you'd normally need.

If you're staying at Faskally Woods or Milton Of Fonab nearby, it's an easy drive, and both parks are close enough that a morning round followed by an afternoon exploring Pitlochry town makes sense. The visitor facilities are basic but functional - nothing fancy, just a straightforward clubhouse.

Check their website for green fees and booking - you'll need to arrange in advance during peak season. Summer months get busy with local members. Spring and autumn are quieter and the weather, while unpredictable, usually rewards you with those stunning mountain views.
