Walk into Piper's Wood and you're immediately swallowed by proper old-growth woodland - the kind where the canopy gets thick enough to darken the afternoon. It's a genuine forest, not a manicured park, which means tangled undergrowth, moss-covered logs, and trails that wind without much fanfare through Gloucestershire's quieter corners near Gloucester.

What you actually do here is walk. There are no visitor centres or marked attractions, just woodland paths that reward a bit of exploration. In spring the floor erupts with bluebells; autumn turns the whole place bronze and amber.
