The main draw is the riverside path itself. It winds through beech and oak, drops down to rocky outcrops where the water churns below, and occasionally opens onto views that actually justify the hype. The walks range from gentle riverside strolls to proper leg-work if you fancy climbing the steeper sections inland. Most people do the loop in under two hours, though you can easily spend longer just sitting by the water.

For families, younger kids might find the steep bits challenging, but the flatter sections work fine. Walkers absolutely love it - the terrain's interesting enough without being technical, and the Wye Valley setting beats most lowland parks hands down. History buffs should know the estate dates back centuries, though the bones of the old house are barely visible.

It's free, which is brilliant. The nearest proper facilities are in Chepstow, five minutes' drive away.
