Phantassie Doocot

It's a squat, circular tower built from local stone - the sort of thing you'd walk past without thinking if the landowner hadn't been generous enough to let visitors nose around. These doocots were status symbols once, practical too: they housed pigeons that provided fresh meat and fertiliser before refrigeration made them redundant. This one's survived better than most, though you're looking at maybe twenty minutes of inspection unless you're properly into Scottish rural architecture. Families with fidgety children should probably skip it unless they're already fascinated by old buildings; walkers heading around the coast or through the Dunbar area though will find it a proper interesting stopping point. Free, accessible from the outside most times, though checking ahead with the local visitor centre in Dunbar makes sense given it's privately owned.
