About Penderyn Distillery
The tour takes you through the whole process: mashing, fermentation, distillation in those distinctive stills, and the cask storage where the magic happens. What caught me was how small the operation is compared to Scottish distilleries - Penderyn makes single malts in modest quantities, which gives the whole thing a less commercialised feel. They use water from the Brecon Beacons, which does matter if you care about that sort of thing.
Allow two to two and a half hours for the full experience, including a tasting at the end. The gift shop is decent without being pushy, and there's a café if you're staying longer. It's not free entry, but the price is reasonable for what you get.
Penderyn works well as a half-day trip from nearby Neath, or pair it with a stay at Four Falls Glamping if you're doing the full Welsh mountain break. The location itself is the real draw - the views across the valleys are genuinely worth the drive up. Go on a clear day and you'll understand why they chose this spot.
