Pedn-y-ke

Getting to Pedn-y-ke takes a bit of effort, but that's half the appeal. This Cornish beach sits tucked away enough that you won't trip over crowds of day-trippers, yet close enough to Henry's Campsite if you're basing yourself nearby.

It's a proper working beach - golden sand meets dark rock outcrops, and the whole setup feels genuinely local rather than polished for postcards. The cove itself is compact, which means it fills up faster on summer weekends, but off-season you'll have stretches of sand nearly to yourself. The rock pools are worth investigating if you've got kids in tow, though the scramble down can be steep.

Walkers should tackle the coastal path either side of the beach - the views back onto the cove are far better than standing in it. Allow an hour minimum for a proper poke around, longer if you're the type to sit and watch the light change.

Truth is, Pedn-y-ke doesn't reinvent the Cornish beach wheel. It's not dramatic like Perranporth, not fashionable like Polzeath. What it does offer is the genuine article - a slice of actual working coast without the Instagram filter. If you're staying at Henry's Campsite for a week, this makes a solid morning jaunt. If you're driving specifically for this one, budget time for the surrounding coves instead.
