Path Hill

Path Hill sits just inland from Sidmouth, a modest summit that punches above its weight if you're after a decent walk without the slog. The climb itself takes about 20 minutes from the nearest car park - nothing dramatic, just a steady uphill that gets the blood moving. What makes it worthwhile is the view across to the Jurassic Coast and back towards the town below. On a clear day you can see properly far.

This is walkers' territory rather than a quick photo stop. Families with kids who can manage an uneven path will get something from it, but you're looking at a proper walk here, not a amble. If you're staying at Oakdown or Cuckoo Down - both very close - it's an ideal morning expedition before the weather turns or the crowds arrive at the seafront attractions. Ladram Bay is a bit further but still within striking distance.

Timing-wise, factor in an hour and a half if you're not rushing, including the descent. The path can get muddy after rain and the ground's uneven in places, so decent boots matter. There's no visitor facility at the top, so bring water. Go early or late afternoon to dodge the worst of the sun if it's a scorcher. It's free to access - just find a spot to park locally and crack on. Not revolutionary, but a proper little Devon hill walk that rewards you with views that make the climb feel earned.
