Owlerton Stadium

Owlerton Stadium, tucked away in Sheffield's industrial northwest, is where speedway racing still thrums with genuine passion. It's not glamorous - the track sits in a proper working-class corner of the city, concrete and steel - but that's rather the point. This is speedway as it's been for decades: bikes howling around a tight oval at impossible angles, riders leaning so far they're practically horizontal.

The season runs March through October, and if you catch a meeting on a Friday or Saturday night, you'll understand why locals keep coming back. The noise is tremendous. The smell of fuel and burning rubber catches in your throat. You're genuinely close to the action, not watching from some distant corporate hospitality box.

Not for everyone, mind you. If you hate noise or find motorsport tedious, give it a miss. But for anyone with even passing interest in speedway - or families after something genuinely different - it's worth an evening. Admission's reasonable, and the whole thing wraps up in a couple of hours.

Staying at Fox Hagg Farm Campsite just 3.5 miles away makes perfect sense if you're basing yourself in the area. It's close enough for an easy trip into the stadium, and you get back to something properly rural afterwards. Wyming Brook Farm is also nearby if you want something with slightly higher ratings, though it's a bit further out.
