Ormskirk Golf Club

An 18-hole parkland course just outside Burscough that's been going since 1897. The layout winds through mature trees and open fairways - proper traditional stuff, nothing too gimicky. It's the kind of place where golfers actually want to spend an afternoon rather than just tick a box.

Obviously this is for golfers. If you're not swinging a club, there's not much to do here beyond watching from the clubhouse. That said, if your group includes at least one keen player, Ormskirk works well as part of a Lancashire break - you get your round in while others head to nearby parks like Leisure Lakes or The Secret Garden Glamping, both within easy driving distance.

You'll want to check the website for membership fees and visitor rates beforehand. Rounds typically take four hours, so block out a good chunk of the day. The course plays well year-round, though late spring and early autumn are when the grass is in best condition.

It's not one of those flashy destination courses that pulls tourists from three counties over. Instead, it's the reliable local club with decent greens and enough character to make repeat visits worthwhile.
