Onibury Church | St Michael

The churchyard sits quietly off the lane near Craven Arms, and St Michael's is exactly the sort of place you stumble upon by accident while driving through rural Shropshire. Inside, it's wonderfully straightforward - a medieval parish church with honest stone walls, simple furnishings, and that particular smell of old wood and floor polish that makes churches feel genuinely lived-in rather than museum-like.

What catches you immediately is the Norman doorway and the chancel arch, both proper bits of heritage that speak to the 12th century. The interior rewards a slow wander; there's a decent font, some brasses worth examining if you're into that sort of thing, and windows that let the light fall in exactly the right way to make you understand why people kept rebuilding these places for eight hundred years.

This isn't a destination church - you're not driving forty minutes out of your way for it.
