One Canada Square

The first time you clock One Canada Square from the Jubilee Line, it's a proper jolt. That pyramid-topped glass tower dominates Canary Wharf like a gleaming exclamation mark, and at 235 metres it held the title of Britain's tallest building for twenty years. You can't actually go inside - it's office space, all investment banks and corporate types - but that barely matters.

The real draw is walking round it. The plaza at ground level is free to roam, and there's something oddly compelling about standing beneath something that massive, watching light bounce off those glass panels. On a clear day the views across the Thames toward the City are genuinely impressive. The building sits at the heart of Canary Wharf's development, so you're really seeing the architecture that reshaped East London in the 1990s.

Walkers get the most from this. Pair it with a stroll along the Thames Path - it's a ten-minute walk to the water - or explore the wider Wharf with its restaurants, galleries and the Museum of London Docklands nearby. Kids under ten might find it a bit abstract; they want to climb things, not admire them. Twenty minutes here is probably enough unless you're photographing it.

If you're staying at Abbey Wood Experience Freedom Glamping six miles south, the Jubilee Line gets you here in fifteen minutes. It's worth the trip as part of a broader East London wander rather than a destination in itself, but the building's undeniably impressive.
