Old Bicycles by the Sea

You'll round a coastal corner near Buckie and find yourself staring at a collection of old bicycles arranged along the shoreline - rusted frames and weathered wheels propped against rocks and driftwood like some sort of maritime museum nobody quite planned. It's an odd sight, the kind of thing that makes you pull over and wonder what the story is.

The bikes themselves are proper relics. Some still have their saddles, others are down to bare metal and spokes. There's no visitor centre, no interpretation boards explaining who left them here or why - just the bicycles, the sea breeze, and your own imagination filling in the blanks. That's either brilliant or frustrating depending on your tolerance for mystery.

It works best for photographers and anyone drawn to forgotten objects with a bit of character. You won't spend hours here - twenty minutes of poking about, maybe a few photos, and you're done. But it's an honest oddity, the kind of thing that sticks in your memory more than another manicured seafront attraction would.

The site's free and accessible year-round, though winter winds make it properly bleak. Park at Greencraig Pods, Caravan & Camping just up the road (2.7 miles away) and combine it with a proper walk along the Aberdeenshire coast - the real draw for this stretch anyway. Don't expect answers about the bikes. Half the appeal is never getting them.
