Oddballs

You'll find Oddballs tucked away near Cleethorpes, and it's the sort of place that could easily be dismissed as a bit tacky until you're actually playing through it. This is proper miniature golf - nine holes of the kind that makes grown adults competitive and kids squeal when someone nearly gets a hole-in-one.

The course has that wonderfully ramshackle charm of seaside attractions that have been around long enough to develop character. Expect obstacles, windmills, tight angles, and the occasional shot that seems physically impossible until someone pulls it off. It's not trying to be fancy, and that's exactly what works.

Bring the family if they're old enough to hold a putter without immediately hitting someone in the shins - toddlers will get bored quickly, but kids from about seven upwards will have a laugh. You're looking at 45 minutes to an hour to get round, depending on how many arguments break out over the scoring.

If you're staying at Haven Cleethorpes Beach Holiday Park, Oddballs is close enough for a rainy afternoon activity, and the sort of low-stakes fun that breaks up a beach holiday nicely. On a sunny day you'd probably rather be seaside, but when the weather turns temperamental, it's worth knowing it's there. Not groundbreaking, but effective.
