Oakwell Stadium is Barnsley Football Club's home ground, a proper working football pitch in the heart of South Yorkshire. If you're staying at one of the nearby campsites - Mapplewell Meadows Farm is closest, just over two miles away - and fancy catching a match or taking a stadium tour, it's an easy drive into town.

The stadium itself has genuine character. You'll see the old terraces and the newer stands all mixed together, which is honestly more interesting than some of the generic modern grounds. Match days are electric if you time it right, with proper local atmosphere rather than the corporate feel of bigger clubs. The town of Barnsley has a real working-class heart to it, and that comes through in the crowd.

If you can't get tickets for a game, stadium tours do run depending on the fixture schedule - worth checking ahead with the club directly as timings aren't fixed. It's not a massive draw on its own if you're just passing through, but for football fans it's absolutely worth a visit. Families with kids who support the club or enjoy the sport will get proper value from match day, though younger children might struggle with a full 90 minutes.
