Oaklands Park and Bandstand

The bandstand sits at the heart of Oaklands Park like some kind of Victorian time capsule, all ornate metalwork and faded charm. It's a modest green space just outside Romney Marsh - the sort of place you'd stumble upon while driving through Kent rather than plan a pilgrimage for, but oddly worth an hour or so if you're camping nearby.

What you get is straightforward: open grassland, woodland edges, and a proper focal point in that bandstand. On a decent day it's pleasant enough for a stroll, and the open design means kids won't get bored immediately - there's room to run around without feeling hemmed in by trees. Local walkers use it regularly, which tells you something about the vibe. The bandstand itself is the draw, really. Whether it actually hosts concerts these days is unclear, but it's photogenic in a no-nonsense way.

Free to visit, no admission charge that we could find. Allow an hour maximum unless you're combining it with a longer walk into the surrounding countryside. Spring and autumn are the times to go - summer can feel a bit muggy out here on the Marsh, and winter's fairly bleak.
