Oak Ring

Ancient oaks form a rough circle in this woodland clearing, creating what locals call the Oak Ring - though whether it's natural formation or deliberate planting remains a proper mystery. The trees are genuinely impressive specimens, their gnarled branches creating a cathedral-like canopy that filters sunlight into dappled patterns on the forest floor.

Walking through feels oddly ceremonial, and you can see why some reckon it might have been a meeting place centuries back. The silence is remarkable - just birdsong and the rustle of leaves overhead. It's the sort of spot that gets children's imaginations running wild, though teenagers might find it a bit tame unless they're into photography or nature.

Getting there involves a pleasant woodland ramble from the nearest car park, maybe twenty minutes if you dawdle. The path can get muddy after rain, so decent boots are wise. Spring brings bluebells carpeting the surrounding woodland, while autumn turns the whole area into a riot of copper and gold.

Allow an hour for the whole visit unless you're planning a longer forest walk. Not earth-shattering, but a lovely spot for a peaceful break from busier tourist trails.
