Oak Holt

The woodland paths at Oak Holt feel proper peaceful - ancient oaks tower overhead and the light filters through in that soft green way that makes you forget Skegness is only a few miles away. You're walking through proper old-growth forest here, the kind where roots tangle across the path and you actually feel like you've stepped into something older than the holiday park circuit.

It's not a destination that demands hours - most people work through it in forty minutes to an hour, which is exactly right. The paths are manageable but uneven underfoot, so trainers over flip-flops. It's the sort of place walkers genuinely enjoy, and families with kids old enough to handle muddy ground without complaining will find it decent too. There's something about letting children loose in a proper wood that beats another afternoon at the dodgems.

The forest sits well for anyone based at Lincolnshire Lanes Camp or The Nurseries Caravan Site - close enough that you can slip away without it becoming a production. Go early morning if you can; the wood's quieter then and you'll see more wildlife. The Skegness seafront is busy enough without needing to queue for woodland, and Oak Holt gives you that proper country feeling the coast can't quite manage.

Free access, as far as I can tell, which makes it even better value. Don't expect facilities or a car park - this isn't polished. It's just trees, paths, and air that tastes green.
