Notoaks Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a manicured nature reserve, Notoaks Wood sits just outside Chipping Norton and delivers exactly what you'd hope for from an Oxfordshire forest. Beech and oak dominate, with the kind of dappled light that makes even a grey afternoon feel atmospheric. The woodland floor is soft underfoot, carpeted with leaf litter and moss - perfect for wandering without the crunch that puts dogs on alert.

It's the sort of place that rewards a slow amble rather than a destination walk. There's no obvious trail system or interpretation boards, which some will love and others might find slightly frustrating. Allow an hour or two depending on how thoroughly you want to explore the different sections.
