Norfolk Coast National Landscape

The Norfolk Coast National Landscape stretches for miles along one of England's most underrated stretches of shoreline, and it's genuinely worth carving out proper time for it. This isn't a single attraction with a visitor centre and gift shop - it's an actual landscape, designated for its environmental and cultural significance, running east from Wells-next-the-Sea through salt marshes, shingle beaches, and low cliffs that shift with the seasons.

What you actually do here is walk. The coastal path is excellent for all abilities, though the terrain changes - some sections are easy and flat along the marshes, others climb gently through woodland. Bird watchers will go quietly mad with excitement. The marshes draw countless species, particularly in spring and autumn migration seasons. Families with younger kids work best sticking to the Wells area itself - the town has beaches, ice cream shops, and a harbour that keeps everyone occupied for a good few hours.

Historically minded types will find plenty to engage with - there's evidence of salt production dating back centuries, old windmills, and the whole region tells the story of how humans have lived alongside and adapted to a genuinely dynamic coastline. The landscape physically changes year on year, eroding in some spots, building up in others.

If you're staying at Pinewoods Holiday Park, you're perfectly positioned - less than a mile away. The Norfolk Brickyard and Deepdale Camping offer good alternatives if you want a base slightly further along the coast. Allow at least a full day to get a proper sense of it. Free to access, naturally. Go in winter for dramatic skies and solitude, or spring for the migrating birds.
