Nookerley Hill

The walk up Nookerley Hill rewards you with proper Weardale views - rolling moorland stretching out across County Durham's high country. It's not a dramatic peak, but that's rather the point. No queues, no visitor centre, just open fell and the kind of quiet you don't get in honeypot spots.

The approach is straightforward enough for most reasonably fit walkers, though the final push gets a bit steep. Allow a couple of hours there and back from the road. It's free, obviously - just farmland and fell. If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks like Heather View or Kingfisher (both under three miles away), it's a solid half-day option.
