The court itself is smaller than you'd expect from watching on telly. The grass is immaculate, that distinctive shade of green you only see at Wimbledon. You can walk around the perimeter and take in the sightlines, imagine the roar when a Brit makes it through to the second week. It's not a massive spend of time - thirty minutes is enough unless you're genuinely obsessed - but standing courtside does something to you.

Tour access depends entirely on tournament schedules. During the two weeks in late June and early July, you need a ticket. Outside that window, access is restricted. If you're a serious tennis fan or want to see where the magic happens, it's worth timing a London trip around the event itself, though tickets go fast.

Nearby, Lovat Parks offers a decent base for exploring southwest London. It's a five-mile hop to Wimbledon village, which has good independent shops and proper pubs. Combine this with Richmond Park or Kew Gardens - both proper day-trippers - and you've got a solid few days mapped out. The location works well if you're after a more suburban London experience rather than central chaos.
