Newtonhill Parish Church

The granite kirk that sits above the village of Newtonhill isn't trying to impress you with grandeur. Stoneheaven Queen Elizabeth Park sits just four and a half miles away, making Newtonhill an easy afternoon walk or quick drive if you're camped there. The nearby coastal town itself is far more interesting - Stonehaven's red-painted harbour and clifftop castle are worth your time instead.

This works best if you're the type who likes ticking off local churches, or if you're doing a walking route through the village anyway. Children will find it dull unless they're already into graveyards and local history. Go midweek for peace and quiet, though honestly you'll have that regardless. Best visited in summer when the light catches the granite properly.
