Newbridge Fields

Newbridge Fields is one of those places you stumble upon rather than plan for, tucked between Bridgend and Porthcawl in South Wales. It's a proper nature reserve - marshland and wet grassland mostly - where you can expect to see wading birds, dragonflies in summer, and the kind of quiet that actually feels rare these days.

Walkers will find it most rewarding. The paths aren't dramatic or demanding, but they're enough to get you out of the car and breathing properly. Birdwatchers should bring binoculars; the reserve attracts species that don't show up everywhere. Families with younger kids might manage a short circuit, though there's not a huge amount to hold their attention beyond splashing about if it's been wet.
