New Hill

The climb up New Hill takes about twenty minutes if you're moving at a decent pace, and the reward is a proper Somerset panorama - moorland rolling away in all directions, with Glastonbury Tor visible on a clear day. It's not a dramatic peak by any means, more of a steady pull through open countryside, but that's rather the point. You get the walk without the scramble.

This is walker territory, full stop. Families with small kids might find it a bit of a slog coming back down, but older children who enjoy being outdoors will crack on fine. History buffs won't find much to chew on here - it's about the landscape and the exercise, not about plaques or ancient settlements. The views across the Somerset Levels are what draw people, and they're worth the effort.

There's no visitor centre, no facilities, no charge. Just the hill and the path. Allow an hour return if you're taking your time, less if you're moving quick. Early morning or late afternoon gives you better light for photos and fewer people about.

If you're camped at one of the nearby sites - Orchard Farm Luxury Glamping is closest at under two miles away - this makes an excellent morning outing before settling in for the afternoon. Pair it with a wander around Glastonbury itself, and you've got a solid day sorted.
