New Fen viewpoint

The walk to New Fen viewpoint near Brandon takes you through proper fenland - flat, wide open, the sort of landscape that makes you understand why East Anglia feels so different from the rest of England. You're looking out across the Fens themselves, that vast expanse of reclaimed marshland that stretches for miles. It's not dramatic in the way a mountain viewpoint is. There are no sweeping vistas or dramatic drops. What you get instead is space - genuine, almost unsettling amounts of it.

This works best for people who actually like fenland, to be honest. Walkers come here regularly because the area around Brandon is threaded with decent footpaths, and the viewpoint itself marks a natural pause in a longer route. If you're after landscape photography, the light out here can be excellent, especially in early morning or late afternoon when the sky does interesting things. Families with restless kids might find twenty minutes is enough - it's a proper trudge to get there and there's nothing to do once you arrive except look and think.

It's free to visit, as these things usually are. Allow an hour if you're making it part of a walk from Brandon itself. The nearby Willow Grove Farm Glamping makes a good base if you're spending time exploring the wider fen country - you'll want somewhere comfortable to return to after days of flat-walking and sky-watching. Winter is often clearer than summer, when the light gets hazy across the water. Worth the detour if you're already walking the area, but don't drive out specially.
