Walking into New Close Wood feels like stepping properly away from Rugby's sprawl, even though you're only a few minutes' drive out. The woodland here is dense without being claustrophobic - a mix of mature trees and younger growth that changes character depending which path you take. Expect muddy tracks in winter, drier leaf-covered trails come summer. The wood itself isn't vast, so you won't get lost for hours, but that's rather the point. It's the kind of place where a couple of hours feels right, not exhausting.

This works best for walkers wanting something low-key and local, or families with younger kids who'll enjoy scrambling over fallen logs and spotting whatever wildlife is about. The woodland does what woodlands do - it's calming without being spectacular. No waterfalls, no dramatic viewpoints, just trees and quiet. That said, if you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Eriba Glade or Meadow Field are both within five miles - it's a solid way to fill a morning without driving far. The ground gets boggy in places after rain, so proper boots are sensible rather than optional.
