Nanny's Rock

A sandstone outcrop rising from the Worcestershire countryside near Kidderminster, Nanny's Rock is one of those landmarks that locals know well but visitors often miss entirely. It's not dramatic - nothing like a proper peak - but there's something compelling about a natural formation that's weathered enough centuries to earn its own name.

The rock itself sits in open countryside and makes for a decent short walk if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Wolverley Camping and Caravanning Club Site or Bank Farm Holiday Park. It's the sort of place that rewards a detour rather than a destination in itself. You get views across the local landscape, and on a clear day you can see why someone bothered naming it. History types might find the geology interesting; families with younger kids will probably get restless after twenty minutes or so.

Access appears to be free and unrestricted, though there's no visitor infrastructure to speak of - no car park, no facilities, no interpretation boards. You'll need to know roughly where you're going. It works well as a leg-stretch on a park holiday, particularly if you're basing yourself at Hopleys Family Camping or Pinewood Retreat Glamping and fancy a proper walk rather than just sitting by the caravan. Spring and early summer are best - the countryside is actually green then, and the light's better for photography if that's your thing. Don't expect crowds or queues. You'll likely have it to yourself.
