Naburn Marina

The Ouse slips past Naburn Marina with the kind of quiet that makes you forget York's only four miles upstream. This is proper waterside Yorkshire - nothing fancy, just boats tied up along the bank and the sort of place where locals bring their dogs on Sunday mornings.

You can walk the towpath in either direction without paying a penny. South towards Selby's pleasant enough, north takes you back towards the city. Walkers get the most from Naburn. The Ouse Walk passes right through, so it slots easily into a longer ramble. If you're staying at Cawood Park nearby, the marina makes a decent afternoon leg without committing to a full day out. Families with young children won't find dedicated activities here, but the water, the ducks, and the chance to watch narrowboats come and go will hold attention for an hour or so.

Timing doesn't matter much - it's open to the elements year-round. Spring's best when the towpath edges green up, but honestly, March or October when other spots are rammed, Naburn's exactly the kind of quiet corner that makes a park holiday actually restful rather than exhausting.
