Myreton Hill

The walk up Myreton Hill takes about forty minutes if you're reasonably fit, and the effort pays off with proper views across the Forth Valley towards the Pentland Hills. It's not dramatic - nothing like Ben Lomond or the Trossachs peaks - but that's rather the point. This is a gentle Lowland hill that rewards you without requiring crampons or a survival kit.

From the top you can pick out Stirling Castle to the south, the Wallace Monument rising up nearby, and on clear days the reach seems to stretch for miles. The paths are well-maintained and muddy rather than treacherous, so families with older kids manage it fine. Younger ones might find the summit a bit of an anticlimax - there's no café, no visitor centre, just grass and views and the satisfaction of having climbed something.

It's free to visit and accessible year-round, though winter can be boggy. Allow three hours total if you're taking photographs and dawdling. The location works brilliantly with Witches Craig Caravan & Camping Park just two and a half miles away - you could easily knock this walk in as a morning outing before heading back for lunch, or make it an evening climb when the light's golden and the valley softens.

History buffs will appreciate the proximity to Stirling's battlefields and monuments, but treat this hill as what it is: a solid local walk with a decent reward, not a destination in itself. Good boots, a flask of tea, and low expectations make for a very pleasant couple of hours.
