Museum of Classic Sci-Fi

The Museum of Classic Sci-Fi sits just outside Hexham and is an absolute treat if you grew up watching Doctor Who or can still quote entire scenes from The Day the Earth Stood Still. It's a proper fan's museum rather than a stuffy academic affair - the kind of place where someone clearly cares deeply about getting the details right.

You're walking through displays of costumes, props, and memorabilia spanning decades of science fiction television and film. There's real stuff here - actual sets, authentic replicas, the works. Whether you're keen on the campy 1960s serials or the slightly dodgier special effects of the 1970s, there's enough to keep you engaged for a solid two to three hours. Kids who've caught the sci-fi bug will find it properly absorbing; younger ones might flag after an hour or so.

Check the website before you go for current opening hours and admission prices - these do change seasonally. The location works well if you're based at Panoramic Pods just down the road, or Langley Dam Glamping a few miles further out. Both are cracking spots for a Northumberland break, and this museum makes a worthwhile half-day detour when the weather turns grim.

It's not the sort of attraction everyone will leap at, but if you're already in the area and have a soft spot for the classics, it's well worth an afternoon.
