Mudchute Park and Farm

You'd be forgiven for missing this one - it's tucked away on the Isle of Dogs, surrounded by docks and modern flats, yet somehow it feels completely separate from all that. Mudchute Park and Farm is exactly what it says: 32 acres of green space where you can actually get your hands dirty, or at least watch other people do it.

The farm bit is the real draw. Proper working animals - pigs, sheep, cows, horses - roam the fields, and you can wander through fairly freely. There's a community vibe that's quite refreshing for London. Kids love it, obviously, but it's not aggressively kid-oriented, which is rather nice. The walking trails loop through decent woodland with views back towards Canary Wharf - the contrast between city and countryside is genuinely striking.

It's free to wander the park itself, though the farm does ask for a small donation to keep things running. Allow an hour minimum if you've got little ones who want to dawdle at the fence looking at livestock. Two hours if you fancy the longer loop walks.

Geographically, you're about half an hour from central London via the DLR, but it feels properly rural. If you're staying at somewhere like Abbey Wood Experience Freedom Glamping just down the road, this is an easy add-on for a morning. The real value here isn't Instagram moments - it's unrushed space where Londoners actually interact with animals and soil. That's rarer than you'd think.
