Motor Museum

The cars here are proper brilliant - vintage Jaguars, classic Minis, and the kind of motors you thought had all been scrapped decades ago. Moreton Motor Museum sits just outside Exeter and houses one of those collections that's clearly been assembled by someone who actually loves cars rather than just chucking everything under one roof for the sake of it.

You're looking at a good two hours minimum, longer if you're the type who reads every placard and wants to photograph every detail. The collection spans from the 1920s through to more recent classics, so there's genuine breadth here. Kids get a real kick out of it - those bright red Ferraris and impossibly low sports cars tend to stop them dead in their tracks. Adults who grew up around these models often find themselves standing in front of one particular car remembering their dad's old Rover or their first driving lesson.

What makes this different from some museum experiences is that it doesn't feel sterile. These aren't cars locked away behind ropes - they're presented in ways that make you want to lean in and look properly. The admission cost isn't extortionate, and the cafe at least gives you somewhere to sit if someone needs a break.

If you're based at Barley Meadow or Woodland Springs - both proper close by - this works nicely as an indoor backup on one of those Devon drizzle days, or a genuine highlight if you're genuinely into vehicles.
