About Mote Hill
Once you're at the summit, you get 360-degree views across the Scottish Lowlands that make the huff and puff absolutely worthwhile. On a clear day you can see right across to the Trossachs. The views of Stirling itself spread below you are surprisingly good - you can trace the bend in the River Forth and pick out the castle perched on its crag.
This isn't a destination in itself, mind. It's a proper local's walk, and it works best as a half-hour detour if you're already in Stirling visiting the castle or exploring the town. Families with kids of eight and up will manage fine; younger ones might find the steep bits tiresome. There's no visitor facility or café at the top - just the views and a bit of peace.
If you're staying at Witches Craig Caravan & Camping Park just outside town, this makes a good morning walk before heading elsewhere. It's free, it's accessible year-round, and it beats sitting in another museum. The real value is that it gets you high enough to understand the geography of this part of Scotland without requiring full hiking kit.
