Moretonhampstead Community Church

The parish church sits right in the heart of Moretonhampstead, a proper little market town on the edge of Dartmoor, about twenty minutes south-west of Exeter. It's a working community space first, a tourist attraction second - which is exactly how it should be.

The church itself is a typical Devon parish affair: solid, unpretentious, with enough centuries layered into its fabric to keep history types occupied for a good half hour. Families with older kids who aren't bored by churches will find it worthwhile. Younger children? They'll get restless quickly, though the churchyard's worth ten minutes for a wander.

There's no grand spectacle here, no shop, no cafe attached. Just a village church doing what village churches do. That's the point. If you're in the area exploring Moretonhampstead's few shops or grabbing a pint at the pub, stepping inside costs nothing and takes barely your time. Don't make it a destination in itself, but definitely don't skip it.
