Moor Hall Dog Park

Moor Hall Dog Park sits just outside Preston and is exactly what it claims to be - a proper off-lead space where dogs can actually run without a lead in sight. The reserve has that slightly wild Lancashire feel, with rough grassland and tree cover that makes dogs feel like they've escaped to somewhere properly wild, even though Preston's only a stone's throw away.

It's a no-nonsense spot. You get open moorland, some woodland edges, and enough space that your dog won't be constantly bumping into other dogs if you time it right. The paths are muddy when wet - which is often - so waterproof boots aren't optional. There's no visitor centre or café, no interpretive boards, just land and dogs doing what dogs do.

This is squarely for dog owners. If you've got a spaniel that needs to burn off energy or a anxious terrier that relaxes only off-lead, you'll find it invaluable. Those without dogs will find it rather dull. Walkers after scenic views should head elsewhere. A couple of hours is the natural limit.
