Minigolf

The windmill hole. That's the one everyone remembers from their last visit to Skegness's minigolf course. A proper bit of seaside fun that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is - eighteen holes of painted concrete, plastic obstacles, and the occasional moment of genuine annoyance when the ball refuses to cooperate.

It's exactly the sort of thing families staying at North Shore Holiday Park or Butlins down the road will do on an afternoon when the weather turns dodgy or the beach feels too crowded. Kids aged five to fifteen get proper engaged with it, though teenagers might look bored until they're actually holding a putter, at which point competitive spirit takes over. Adults find themselves oddly invested too - there's something about minigolf that makes grown-ups behave like they're in the Open Championship.

The course sits within walking distance of Skegness town centre, so it slots nicely into a seaside day alongside the arcades and chip shops. Allow an hour for a full round, maybe ninety minutes if you're playing properly rather than just mucking about. It's the sort of quick-fix entertainment that costs a tenner or so per person - nothing that'll break the bank after a week at Haven or Parkdean Southview.

Worth doing once? Absolutely. Will you remember it fondly years later? Probably just the windmill hole.
