Mill Pool

Mill Pool sits just outside Atherstone, a proper working lake that's been there since medieval times when it actually drove a mill. These days it's a quiet spot where the water reflects the sky and you can forget you're anywhere near civilisation.

It's straightforward: you walk round it, watch the wildlife, maybe bring binoculars if you're into birds. The path is manageable, though it can get muddy depending on rainfall. Families with young kids will manage fine, though they'll probably only want twenty minutes or so before asking for snacks. Walkers and photographers get more from it - the light changes throughout the day and there are decent vantage points around the perimeter.

You're looking at thirty to forty minutes for a casual walk, longer if you sit and watch the water properly. There's something genuinely calming about it that the Instagram spots never quite capture.

Don't expect crowds or facilities. It's not the sort of place you travel miles for on its own, but as part of a Warwickshire afternoon? It's time well spent.
