The Military Museum Scotland sits just outside Edinburgh near Newbridge, and it's one of those places that surprises you with its depth. Inside you'll find weapons, uniforms, medals and regimental histories spanning centuries of Scottish military service. It's genuinely well-curated - not a dusty jumble of old kit, but properly presented with context that actually tells a story.

History buffs will spend a good two to three hours here without feeling rushed. The collections cover everything from the Jacobite era through to modern operations, so you get a real sense of how Scotland's regiments shaped things. Families with older kids (say, ten upwards) will find it engaging, though younger ones might lose interest after an hour or so - there's not much here designed specifically for small hands.

It works nicely as part of a broader Edinburgh trip rather than a standalone destination. If you're staying at Linwater Caravan Park, it's barely over a mile away, so easily tackled as a morning or afternoon session before heading into the city proper. The setting's fairly no-frills - this isn't a fancy destination museum - but that's rather the point. You're here for the exhibits, not the building.
